Chef Kim Alter opened Nightbird in 2016 after cutting her teeth in some of the Bay Area’s most demanding kitchens, including Manresa, Ubuntu, Aqua, and Acquerello. That foundation shows in every plate. Her cooking is technically precise and quietly expressive, grounded in whole-animal cookery, responsible sourcing, and long-standing relationships with the farmers, ranchers, and fishermen who shape the menu each season. A James Beard nominee and Sustainable Chef of the Year, Alter has built her reputation through consistency, imagination, and restraint rather than spectacle.
